Iowa

From Keokuk to Sioux City and everywhere in between, the rolling hills, vast farm lands and charming towns have produced some outstanding American service members over our nation’s history. Iowa’s troops provided critical supplies to the Union Army, and young Iowans raised their hand to defend America in Iraq and Afghanistan. To this day, military installations in Des Moines, Davenport, and elsewhere ensure America’s military readiness in the Midwest, and evidence of Iowa’s patriotic veterans span the entire state. Thankfully, the state government recognizes the role of its veterans in protecting the right of citizens to vote.

“We have received very positive feedback from the veteran community. This is just a small way we can say thank you to them. Hundreds of thousands of brave men and women defended our freedoms and our right to choose our representative form of government. We cannot say: ‘thank you’ enough for what they did for us, but we can honor them by participating in our elections.” –Paul Pate, Iowa Secretary of State

If you are an Iowa voter, consider approaching the next election with an Iowa veteran in mind before casting your ballot. “Voting” and “Veterans” should always be linked – indeed, their sacrifices have contributed to America’s longstanding democracy.
