Louisiana

Did you know…? Louisiana’s state militia (today’s Louisiana National Guard) began in the 1700s; more than 1 million Army recruits completed basic training at Fort Polk during the Vietnam War; and the U.S. National World War II Museum is located in this state. With such a rich history of military service in the Pelican State, voters of each of the 64 parishes can take their civic duty a step further and dedicate their vote to one or more veterans when casting a ballot.

More than an impressive 4,300 veterans have already been honored by Louisiana voters and their inspiring dedications are posted on the Louisiana Office of the Secretary of State website.

U.S. Vote Foundation strongly encourages you to infuse your vote with even more meaning by posting your dedication through the Honor Vets...Vote! program. Thank a member of your home community who served to defend your right to vote. This can be done on any election day, and your vote can honor a current service member in addition to a veteran!

"One of our most sacred rights is the right to vote. It’s a right that men and women fought and died for and it should not be taken for granted.”
